Epilogue

Beauteous Kingdom sees a double wedding and coronations.  All these events were held in the courtyard, where mermaids and other water dwellers could attend.  The brides, of course, are Emily and Amelia.  You'll have to read the novel to see whom they married.
Not only are Bastiat and his wife reunited.  Grandmother Glynis and her former friend Aleita (a.k.a. the Sea Hag) rekindle their friendship, which had been ruptured many years earlier.
Emily's beloved Cairn terrier Hero had died of old age during the manhunt for the magicians and Henderson Hook.  Hero's body is buried in the royal cemetery, and a basalt statue of a black Cairn terrier is placed on the monument on Hero's grave.
Sawyer Island is named a dukedom and becomes the major portal between Beauteous Kingdom and Marbella, the mermaid kingdom.
Emily and Amelia still from time to time visit Garner's Millpond.  Here's an excerpt from the final paragraph of Emily and the Mermaid: a novelized fairy tale
"Even with her...responsibilities...Emily was still a girl at heart; and...Amelia was still a young mermaid.  Royal titles or not, Emily and Amelia continued to be each other’s very best friend.  Best of all, Emily and Amelia were sisters…
...and they lived happily ever after.
